Agro-Economy: Investments Pour into New Cold Storage and Value-Addition Facilities

Recognizing Muzaffarpur’s strategic position as a primary agricultural hub in North Bihar, a new wave of industrial investment is sweeping the district, focusing strictly on post-harvest infrastructure. To combat the massive annual losses suffered by local farmers due to crop spoilage, several large-scale cold storage facilities and agro-processing units have been sanctioned across the district.

These new MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) investments are designed to provide crucial “value-addition” to everyday agricultural produce like vegetables, regional fruits, and sugarcane. By increasing the capacity for sorting, grading, modern packaging, and temperature-controlled storage, farmers will no longer be forced into distress selling during peak harvest seasons. These facilities will allow local produce to have a significantly longer shelf life, enabling export to distant metropolitan markets and thereby dramatically increasing the profit margins for Muzaffarpur’s agricultural community
